Right to Rent – first digital identity service provider approved

Partners Post Office and Yoti, have been approved as the first certified digital identity service provider (IDSPs) that are able to complete digital identity checks for the Right to Rent scheme.

The Post Office and Yoti have also been approved to be used by businesses, including estate agencies, to check whether newly-appointed have are permitted to work in the UK.

Since 6 April 2022, these checks have been allowed to be carried out using Identity Document Validation Technology (IDVT) via the services of an Identity Services Provider (IDSP) to complete the digital identity verification element of Right to Work checks for British and Irish citizens who hold a valid passport (including Irish passport cards).

The Post Office and Yoti partnership will bring three services to the market for employment vetting – identity verification (web), reusable digital identity (app) and in-person verification in Post Office branches.

John Abbott, chief commercial officer at Yoti, said: “Being one of the first IDSPs to be certified shows our commitment to the market and is a testament to the quality of our digital identity technology.

“Certification under the Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework* represents the gold standard of Digital Identity service provision with security and privacy prioritised, meaning clients have no concerns about GDPR.”
