Norfolk could never be mistaken for a jungle, but that hasn’t stopped Norwich estate agency abbotFox from organising its own version of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity Get me Out of Here.
Called, appropriately enough, I’m an Estate Agent Get me Out of Here, the three-week competition has seen the company’s employees battling against each other to be crowned the ultimate winner, facing stomach-churning challenges and public votes along the way.
Managing director Samuel Le Good told EYE: “We asked the team to come up with suggestions for things they would like to be doing, and obviously with I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here on the TV every night at the moment, it seemed the ideal time. They’re a good bunch and they love to get involved with stuff like this.”
With the competition now in its final week, participants having been accruing points from work-related targets to earn the right to take part in challenges or nominate others to do so.
“Literally every member of staff, including admin, support and viewing reps, have been able to gain points somehow through their roles in the business, so it’s completely inclusive,” Le Good said.
Taking inspiration from the popular jungle-based reality show, the first challenge put contestants’ palates to the test. “There were some interesting things on the menu such as pigs’ eyes but no one chose to give those a go, which is fair enough,” Le Good explained. “There was also lambs’ liver and tongue, and everyone had a go with those.”
The public have now been given a chance to get involved through social media and the MD has been delighted with the response. “They can vote for who they’d like to see partaking in the next challenge, and they can also vote on what that challenge should be,” he explained.
According to Le Good, the competition has been successful in raising morale in the workplace. “We do quite a lot of things like this, and it pulls everyone together at a time when there’s the pressure of things changing in the marketplace,” he said.
“It’s a way of increasing happiness and boosting the fun factor in tough times. We’ve been in a crazy market for the last 18 months where there’s been a lot of pressure on these guys, so it’s a nice way to lift spirits.”
Good fun & fair play to them – just beware copyright issues….
